Certified Athletic Trainer provided by Methodist Healthcare System

All Spurs Camps will have a certified athletic trainer on site throughout the entirety of camp to help with preventative measures (taping, etc.) and immediate care for injuries and other medical conditions. During camp check-in, all parents are asked to consult with the athletic trainer to discuss any specific needs or requests prior to the start of camp. Campers are responsible for bringing their own medications (i.e. inhalers, prescriptions). Please ensure the child's name is clearly printed on his/her belongings.

As the Official Healthcare Provider of your San Antonio Spurs, Methodist Healthcare and the Methodist Sports Medicine Program are proud to offer our Very Important Athlete (VIA) services to participants in the Spurs youth basketball camps.  As a unique part of these services, if an athlete is injured during an activity, a Methodist Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer will be on-site to assess the injury and offer a concierge-type experience and expedited referrals to a Methodist Emergency Room should that type of care be needed.

security

Security will be present at camp at all times. Parents/guardians will be introduced to security at the beginning of camp. Please feel welcome to address any other personal issues or concerns with our SAPD security officer.

know your coach

Spurs Summer Basketball Camps are run by professional and experienced coaches, providing basketball training to young athletes by teaching them every aspect of the game while helping them build character to succeed both on and off the court. All coaches are background checked, complete the Child Safety certification course, and must be current or former athletes at the college level or higher and/or current coaches at the middle/high school level or higher.

Campers and parents will be introduced to  coaches on Monday morning of camp. We ask both parents and campers to familiarize themselves with their coaches.

Tournament Play

Seeding games for tournament play will begin Thursday afternoon. Timing for games will be determined Friday afternoon. Tournament brackets will be posted for each division in designated gyms. Please ensure you know your camper's team name and coach for game reference.

5 on 5 game play rules

Timing: All NCAA, G-league and NBA divisions will play 5 minute quarters with a running clock.

Halftime: 2 minutes (time permitting)

Overtime: There will be NO overtime for these particular camps. If there is a tie at the end of regulation, then teams will play sudden death—the first team to score wins. At this point, coaches may put any five of their players in the game.

Substitutions: Coaches WILL follow the player number system to rotate players in and out of games. Coaches are NOT to keep doing the SAME game rotation for every game. Each player number system has at least 2 or 3 game rotations, so every player will play multiple quarters if done correctly.

In-Game Rules: At NO POINT in the game are players allowed to press, not in the full court or half court set BUT players will be allowed to double team in the half court set. The offensive team has 10 seconds to cross half court with the ball EXCEPT for during the 4th quarter, when teams will have 5 seconds to cross half court. This will eliminate holding the ball the last few minutes or seconds of the game.

Timeouts: There will be NO timeouts awarded to coaches in these particular camps.

Fouls: Non-shooting fouls will result in a dead ball. Shooting fouls will result in 1pt for the shooter and the point or ball depending upon make or miss. If the shooter misses the shot, then the offensive team will get 1pt plus the ball. If the shooter makes the shot, then the offensive team will receive 3pts and the defensive team will receive the ball.

Tiebreaker procedure: If 2 teams are tied in the standings, the team who won the head-to-head matchup will win the tiebreaker. If these two team split the head to head match ups, then a sudden death will be done to determine seeding.

If 3 or more teams are tied, the aggregate point differential, or positive points, from all tournament games will be used to determine all 3 teams' final standing.
